Class Report Reflections

On the morning of December 4, 2024, I completed my first all-English presentation since starting school, which should also count as one of the few semi-scripted presentations.

The last time I used English for a presentation was in high school, probably in 2018. One was about the hardware components of a computer, and the other was about the sci-fi movie alien: covenant.

I remember when I introduced the computer hardware components, I took the motherboard, CPU, and DDR2 memory from an old computer at home and brought them to the visual presenter to explain what a motherboard/mainboard is, which part is the CPU and which part is the memory. The enthusiasm shown by everyone was far beyond my expectations. At that time, I had never assembled a computer, and I wasn't even sure if I could put it back together after taking it apart (in reality, I never did assemble it). I hadn't been exposed to Bilibili or Zhihu back then, so I can't really recall where I learned this knowledge, probably from Pacific Computer Network and Zhongguancun Online.

Although my English wasn't great and I was very nervous, I remember that the effect at that time seemed pretty good. It even confused the teacher about whether it was an English or computer class, and at one point, he signaled me to finish quickly.

My explanation of alien: covenant was also very rough; I just translated the Chinese script into English and read the PPT. I remember mispronouncing covenant as convent. However, I recall that a few boys cheered and called me by my nickname, and they probably shouted the movie's name too. Looking back, it's quite interesting; the group back then was really very supportive. (I shared a classic line from the movie on stage, which comes from Ozymandias, and I felt that line was quite shocking.)

Now, in this group of classmates who chose the same English speaking class, I have also met many enthusiastic classmates, or rather, friends. They actively ask questions from the audience and often share interesting things with me.
